When Betty Ford was First Lady of the U.S. she had a severe pain in her neck that led to an addiction to pain killers that were prescribed by her doctor and when that wasn’t working, she added alcohol (not prescribed) and became addicted to that as well. A statement was issued from the White House that Mrs. Ford was receiving the best medical care available.
Lesson #1. Best according to whom? Beware of experts who tell you there is no other way. There are almost always options. Often experts know a lot about a narrow field. Sometime "non-experts" have an expanded vision of possibilities.
Lesson #2. If this is what the President’s wife received for treatment, is it reasonable to expect you or I would get better?
Lesson #3. Be proactive. If we keep searching we are more apt to find answers than if we aren’t. Many people have gone beyond the bounds of what they were told was possible for them.
Lesson #4. There’s good in every situation.
Out of this, the Betty Ford Clinic was formed helping others overcome their addictions.
